Pearl Jam returned to Hamilton, Ontario on September 6, 2022 for a show at FirstOntario Centre, part of their 2022 North American tour.

This gallery is a special one in my archive, not only because Pearl Jam is one of those bands that carries real emotional weight for so many people, but because my photos from this show are also featured on Pearl Jam’s official website. When Pearl Jam’s team asked to use my images, it was a huge honour.

The Hamilton set opened with “Oceans” and moved through a wide-ranging setlist that included “Nothingman,” “Yellow Moon,” “Man of the Hour,” “Given to Fly,” “Corduroy,” “Daughter,” “Black,” “Porch,” “Wishlist,” “Alive,” and “Indifference.” It was the kind of Pearl Jam show that felt spacious, emotional, and deeply connected to the room.

This gallery heavily features Mike McCready, and for good reason. I waited all day and landed a prime spot on the rail, shooting from the audience in the pit. Mike was phenomenal with the crowd that night, generous with his energy and presence, and I have to thank him for posing for me a few times.

Photographing Pearl Jam has always felt different. There is a physical scale to the band, but also a human one: the quiet gestures, the crowd connection, the way Eddie Vedder can make an arena feel personal, Mike McCready’s electricity from the rail, Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard holding down the architecture of the songs, and Matt Cameron driving the whole thing forward.

This post includes a small preview from the full Pearl Jam Hamilton gallery.
